DIANI BEACH AND AROUND
MOMBASA
Mombasa is Kenya’s second and most historic city and is
actually an Island connected to the mainland by two causeways. Try to visit Fort
Jesus at some time during your trip. Fort Jesus is a national monument and
museum and overlooks the old town of Mombasa. . The old town is a hive of narrow
lanes, mosques and look out for the lovely carved Swahili doors.
DIANI BEACH
Diani Beach is situated on the south coast and caters
for everyone from the person who just wants to relax and enjoy the beautiful
beach and warm Indian Ocean to the person who wants to be a bit more energetic.
Diving
If you are interested in diving there are a good number
of dive centers along Diani Beach. Which cater for the experienced diver and the
beginner? No trip to Diani is complete without a visit to one of the marine
national parks. There are many dhow trip operators offering excursions which
include snorkeling, diving, seafood lunch and the chance to swim with the
dolphins. Snorkeling equipment is provided. You will be picked up here at the
Beachalets and returned after your excursion.
The coral reef at the coast of Kenya is rated among the
top three along with Australia’s barrier reef and the Red Sea.
Snorkeling
Without having to go too far afield you can snorkel
here on Diani Beach and organize a dhow to take you to the reef which is only a
10 minute boat ride or if you are more energetic a 30
minute swim away. A glass bottom boat is another way to travel over to
the reef particularly good for people who cannot swim but do not
want to miss out on the experience of seeing life under water.
Safari’s
There are a large variety of safaris to pick from and
you can also have your own tailor-made safari if you wish. No trip to Kenya can
be complete without a safari and the chance to see the wild animals in their own
habitat. You will be picked up here at the Beachalets and returned after your
safari. We can look after your luggage when you are away overnight. Please ask
in the office if you are interested in a Safari
For younger children not able to go on safari there are
alternatives to see some wild animals. Here at Diani there are two reptile parks
and in Mombasa a visit to Haller Park is a fun trip for the children (and adults
too) where they can feed the giraffes, get close to the giant tortoises,
hippo’s, buffalo and many more plus have lunch beside a crocodile pool. You can
also sample bush meat.
Also at Diani a visit to the Colobus Trust is an
educational trip for children where they will learn about the primates here at
Diani and the volunteers who work for the protection of the Angolan Colobus
monkey which you can also see at the Beachalets.
Water sports
For extreme water sports fans then there is something
for you too. We have two extreme water sports centers which are not far from the
Beachalets .
Activities include air gliding, waterskiing, Jet Ski’s
banana boats and more.
Big game fishing is also available.
Car/motorcycle/cycle hire
If you want to go further afield and use the Beachalets
as your base then hiring a car or motorcycle is easily arranged. For a shorter
journey along the beach perhaps the camels will be the mode of transport you
will enjoy.
Golf
If you are interested in golf, then there is an
eighteen-hole par 72 golf course not far from the Beachalets.
Yoga
At Diani beach you can now visit the Yoga and Ayurvedic
Health Retreat which offers a variety of health programs and therapies plus has
a vegetarian restaurant and fresh juice bar.
